The Woodturner is a growth poem, a celebration of the stunning work of woodturners and a reflection on growth.
The Woodturner – Growth Poem
The woodturner dizzies a log0
into a bowl of fruit,
turning and shaving,
sanding and hollowing out
a space, and
woodchips fall like curly snowflakes.
Now skinless,
the log's grain and sap pockets
bud.
They've been leaking and seeping
into the layers and
sticking them together.
As the woodturner sweeps
transparent lacquer
across the log's marrow,
the veins and grain's dip
shimmers the fruit dizzy.
